Jyothirgamaya | Empowering the blind

Belgium – the beautiful country, with accesibility

I was then taken by my host to visit two distinguished organizations the European Disability Forum (EDF), and the European Network for independent living (ENIL) where I learnt about their work in detail, and how they strive to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, and enhance their independent living.

Another project I visited was the Social cultural association, which promotes youth work, and also learning of French for immigrants.

Our next visit was more spicy and lively, as I made some new discoveries, we visited the toy library of the National Association for the Blind (l’ONA) where I was delighted to see the time, effort, and creativity put I to each adapted game they made for the visually impaired.

Here I realized that visually impaired persons are not treated as third class citizens, as in many developing countries but as equals. This warmed my heart and also filled me with determination to observe everything closely and try to at least implement something in India.
